ive been to photography for only 4 months and ive taken lots of good portraits already! big thanks to @gavin hoey! bought a lot of stuffs seen and learned from your videos too! lol
As my wife is an optician I would suggest to clean glasses first under running water and then with the cloth. Otherwise you could scratch the glasses with particles lying on them…
Excellent video and very useful advice! I noticed that the props can steal the viewer's (my) attention from the subject itself though (the model). The hats and glasses becomes the subject itself in some of the images, and the model is just there as some kind of support. Wether that's a good thing depends on how the images are going to be used, I suppose.
what modifier did you use for your background light for the sunglass shots? I noticed it's the reflector that comes along with most monolights. where did you position this light? I noticed that it was behind of Fern most of the time
Thanks Gavin! That was rather amazingly instructive. I wasn't expecting a riff on the idea of props in a shoot to put so many ideas in my head. Of course my other take-away is the same one everyone else had: I'm hopelessly in love with Fern.
I watch those videos as much for the content as for Gavin's humor, or rather humour. 🙂 The photo with a grid used as background was definitely my favorite.
9 thumbs down for this video, who can possibly find an issue with any of Gavin's tutorials? Always great to watch and very informative. Probably the best teacher of photography i've come across so far on youtube or anywhere else.
Love your stuff. Keep up the great work. May I ask what background music you are using at 5:26 time frame? I really like that flows with the shoot and I could see it some work I have. Thanks
Great and fun episode! Thanks for these ideas Gavin! I am a sunglasses fan myself. Nice to see Fern back, see did a great job – hard to look sexy with googles and a helmet but she pulled it off.

Turn off the AWB. The rapid back and forth WB shift between cool and warm is distracting.
