I'm late with the comment, but i have one q that was bothering me a lot: why don't you make a correct ambient exposure and than use your ettl flash? It looks like you're adjusting your camera settings like you're taking a picture in normal lighting conditions, even if it is underexposed, and then introduce your flash. Thanks for the answer. Keep going with the good work!!
thank you! this is by far the best I have seen for a layman with a 600ex rt. very simple and covers all the main basics without getting into the various modes. I shall learn those at a later stage. keep it up!
This is an excellent video! I appreciate that you made a more affordable recommendation on external flash options. This is by far, one of the best videos online about flash basics.
ITALIA !!! 🙂 How much should batteries cost? the owner of a photo store has tried to sell me 4 double A batteries for 16 euros (18 $) to me that's way too much, and they were not even eneloop, but energizer and panasonic
Good video – thanks. One thing you didn't mention was whether the flash brightness is adjusted by the camera in any way if the flash angle is changed? Or is it just a matter of increasing the flash exposure compensation if eg. the ceiling is quite high?
After seeing this video and realising how simple using an external flash is, I bought the YongNuo YN600EX to go with my 70D and haven't looked back. Look forward to the future ones. Thanks Toby!
I wish people would make more videos like this. Not about taking the perfect photo, but taking the best photo with normal gear. No reflectors, no spot lights etc.
I always use bounce flash but not like your way … Your method is genius … its impact look like you have bounced the flash from the side which give better lighting and 3d look image … Great video … Thanks indeed
Always helpfull. If you could give me a hint. I have a friend going to USA this week. I dont have enough money to buy 600, I'm thinking of getting 430 exIII. I prefer this instead of yongnuo because of the size (I have a Sl1). Is this a smart choice? Tks
Very excited about this series, as I just bought a Yongnuo 600RT on your recommendation. I've always flashes angled slightly up, with the little white thing pulled out, and the transparent thing not pulled out. How does this work for you?
question. what if we need to use a flash but it isn't a closed room where the light can bounce like in a function hall? is it the time where we have to use the flash directly?
Nice video. Great description on what the goal is with the flash, taking the small spot of light and making it larger. Loads of light videos out there, most just go over the gear. Cheers.

Excelent video. Very, very well made. I loved the phone recording the camera like that so we can see what's happening. Cheers!

What about if you are shooting in a gym. Or outdoors. Shooting pictures. I've been using a soft box.
