All these colored filters are useless since the time we all can control the white balance easily with any software. It is better to take the shoot in raw and after do any proccesing i feel to do. I think it is all about marketing.
What is the point? Cant I just increase the Magenta levels in LR? I think I am missing the point or it is just another way for Filter manufacturers to stay in business by telling us we need a filter? I spend all my time getting colours correct, I only add tones in post for effect and to taste, I just don't get it. Happy to take a different point of view with technical facts.
I was curios to see what this filter could do. At the end of the day everybody has different tastes. I have attached a link below of an image i took the other night of a sunset with the Hoya filter and i will let you decide what to make of it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/16496817197/
You convinced me, I just bought one for my Nikon D5000. I'm fairly news at photography and I love shooting sunsets. I really enjoy your videos and get a lot out of them. P.S. ..dude, keep the new hairdo…
I love Bryan's techniques. Very simple but very effective and his videos are short and to the point, great work.
I looked up this filter on Ebay. 77mm FLW from Adorama (Ebay) $65.45…very reasonable, postage to Australia $105.52!!!! What the….are you guys buying an airline seat for this filter.
How about you lower your postage prices, you might sell more of these overseas. I can get other filters from other US vendors for around $10-$20 postage why can't Adorama get a better deal from the freight companies.
I miss his long crazy hair.
I've been following Bryan since Understanding Exposure.
Just bought my 28-135 Canon from Adorama, now time to pick up FLW filter because I love the results from what I've seen.
Filter this filter that… Shoot in RAW and Color correct it in post processing using Light Room, Photoshop or other post processing software and you get the same results. But, if you're a "noob" and you don't know much about post processing then you MUST by the filter to achieve this photo quality shoots. If that is your case then support Adorama for their very good quality tutorials and very high quality material…
I'm inclined to try it in post using WB in Lightroom. Bryan is a great teacher and photographer. I really enjoy his books and videos. PS. He looks a bit like Lance Armstrong now 🙂
The "official" purpose of an FLW filter is to correct for the color frequency limitations of fluorescent light sources. Obviously, Bryan has found a more creative purpose for his! Yes, Cokin makes FLW filters and Adorama carries them. Go to Adorama(dot)com and search for "Cokin FLW" and you will find a bunch of 'em.
Dave, This what you mention is the look people would prefer.. with the age of lightroom what peter showed us all new generation (non film) peeps would simple do this purple sky in lightroom… but if you want to shoot a person in front of a magenta sky your process is absolutely correct.. and I bet not to mane new generation peeps know how to do what you mentioned.. thanks for the comment..
too bad i need to cancel all my orders because they don't have this filter. and adorama haven't returned my money yet in my credit card ordered last june 7

Hi Bryan, with the FLW filter on what White Balance did you set?

OMG, where is Brian's long hair? I liked it so much!

Good clip Bryan, and well done with the hair cut!
whats the benefit of using the filter vs shooting Raw and doing this color in say, Bridge?

WHERE DID THE HAIR GO??? :(
Just bought one for my next trip to FL.
Sometimes Bryan seems to forget that he's got a lav on him and that he doesn't have to raise his voice to be heard.
Very good techniques, very effective and simple. Love your website more power..

Or you can just shoot RAW and do the same thing in post! 😉
I would buy one right now but they are out of stock!

Oh! Thanks for the NEWS !!!
Two completely different things. One is sensitivity (ISO) and one is color (FLW filter).

I love the way these tutorials are made..
In the days of film I used the Tiffen FL-D & FL-B. Can't you get the same effect by setting your white balance to fluorescent?
I'm inclined to try it in post using WB in Lightroom. Bryan is a great teacher and photographer. I really enjoy his books and videos. PS. He looks a bit like Lance Armstrong now 🙂
or you simply switch your white balance to fluorescent? Best and only filter for me is CPL

I like the photos better without the filter.
I prefer the Heliopan Filter TYP 4401 – FL-W . My experiences are good.
